Attributes

  • Color
  • Opens the Active Color drop-down to set the active color, and change the colors of selected elements.
  • Line Style
  • Opens the line style drop-down to set the active line style to the line style that is chosen.
  • Line Weight
  • Opens the line weight drop-down to set the active line weight and change the line weights of selected elements.
  • Transparency
  • Opens the transparency drop-down to set the active element transparency.
  • Priority
  • Opens the priority drop-down to sets the active element priority (2D models only), which determines how an element is displayed relative to other elements.
  • Element Class
  • Opens the element class drop-down to set the active class of element on placement.
 

Primary

  • Explorer
  • Used to manage and control project content within MicroStation.
  • References
  • Used to attach and detach referenced models, adjust reference settings and select reference tools.
  • Raster Manager
  • Used to control the display of one or more raster images in a DGN file view.
  • Point Clouds
  • Used to manage the display of one or more point clouds in a DGN file view.
  • Reality Mesh
  • Used to attach and manipulate reality meshes.
  • Models
  • Used to create, manage, and switch between models in the open DGN file.
  • Level Manager
  • Used to control level display and level symbology for the open DGN/DWG file and attached references.
  • Properties
  • Used to review or modify the properties of an element(s), such as its geometry.
  • Key-in
  • Used to browse, construct, and enter key-ins.
  • Toggle AccuDraw
  • Turns on/off AccuDraw, and the display of the AccuDraw Window, which is used to facilitate data point entry.
  • Auxiliary Coordinates
  • Used to create, copy, delete, or import an Auxiliary Coordinate System (ACS) and to select ACS tools.
  • Saved Views
  • Used to create, update, apply, import, and delete saved views and edit properties of saved views. Saving a view allows you to quickly apply a view with specific attributes.
  • Cells
  • Used to attach cell libraries and activate different types of cells, if one is attached.
  • Markups
  • Used to view markups made in an overlay file in Bentley Navigator. A markup can be annotation text, freehand redlining, pen and area highlighting.
  • Details
  • Used to display information related to what is selected in any of the tabs of the Explorer dialog.
  • Window List
  • Used to display information related to what is selected in any of the tabs of the Explorer dialog.
 

Selection

  • Element Selection
  • Used to select and deselect elements for modification or manipulation. The set of selected elements is called the selection set.
  • Lock
  • Locks selected elements. The attributes and location of a locked element cannot be changed. Locking is useful for preventing accidental element manipulation. If you try to manipulate a locked element, MicroStation beeps to alert you that the element is locked.
  • Unlock
  • Unlocks selected locked elements. Each unlocked element can be manipulated.
  • Bring to Front
  • Brings the selected element to the front of the view display.
  • Manipulate Fence Contents
  • Used to move, copy, rotate, mirror, scale, or stretch fence contents, which are defined by a fence and (except for stretching) the Fence (Selection) Mode.
  • Save Fence to File
  • Used to copy or move the contents of the active fence to a new DGN or DWG file.
  • Cut
  • Used to cut selected elements to clipboard.
  • Copy
  • Used to copy selected elements to clipboard.
  • Paste
  • Used to paste elements from clipboard.
  • Paste Special
  • Used to select the data type and open the Paste OLE dialog where a special display format can be applied to the contents of the Clipboard.
 

Placement

  • Slab
  • (3D only) Used to place an extruded solid with a rectangular cross-section.
  • Sphere
  • (3D only) Used to place a spherical solid — a solid of revolution with a circular cross section.
  • Cylinder
  • (3D only) Used to place a solid cylinder.
  • Extrude
  • (3D only) Used to create a solid generated by linearly extruding a profile element (text, shape, or complex shape, B-spline surface, face of a surface or solid element) a defined distance.
  • a tubular solid extrusion along a path.
  • a solid by extruding a profile element along a path. Profile elements can be a closed element such as a shape, complex shape, B-spline surface, or a selected face of solid or surface element.
  • Revolve
  • Used to create a solid of revolution — a complex 3D element that is generated by rotating a profile element (ellipse, shape, complex chain, complex shape, or closed B-spline curve) about an axis of revolution.
  • Thicken
  • (3D only) Used to add thickness to an existing surface to create a solid.
  • Place SmartLine
  • Used to place a chain of connected line segments and arc segments as individual elements or as a single line string, shape, circle, complex chain, or complex shape element.
  • Place Arc
  • Used to place a circular arc. Arcs can be placed clockwise or counterclockwise.
  • Place Shape
  • Used to place a polygonal shape by entering a series of data points to define the vertices.
  • Place Orthogonal Shape
  • Used to place a non-rectangular shape in which each segment is either perpendicular or parallel to all other segments.
  • Place Regular Polygon
  • Used to place a regular polygon — a shape with 3-4999 equal length sides and equal angles at each vertex.
  • Point(s) Between
  • Used to construct a number of equally spaced Active Points between two data points.
  • Point On Element
  • Used to construct the Active Point on an element at the point closest to the data point.
  • Point(s) Along Element
  • Used to construct the Active Point a specified number of times along an element between two data points.
  • Point at Distance Along
  • Used to construct the Active Point on an element at a keyed-in Distance from where the element is selected.
 

Manipulate

  • Move
  • Used to move an element(s).
  • Copy
  • Used to copy an element(s).
  • Scale
  • Used to resize an element(s).
  • Move Parallel
  • Used to move an element (line, line string, multi-line, curve, arc, ellipse, shape, complex chain, or complex shape), or copy an element, segment of an element or portion of an element, parallel to the original.
  • Array
  • Used to copy an element(s) many times to create an array.
  • Stretch
  • Used to stretch fence contents, which are defined by a fence.
  • Move to Contact
  • Used in either 2D or 3D to move one or more elements in a defined direction until they make contact with another element.
  • Align 3D
  • Used to move a selected element, solid, surface, or profile to be aligned to another solid, surface, or curve element.
 

Modify

  • Modify Solid
  • Used to manipulate faces, edges or vertices of a solid by pushing or pulling them interactively.
  • Cut Solid
  • Used to cut solids using a profile. It requires at least one 2D profile and a solid to operate.
  • Fillet
  • (3D only) Used to fillet, or round, one or more edges of a solid, projected surface, or a surface of revolution.
  • Chamfer
  • (3D only) Used to chamfer one or more edges of a solid, projected surface, or a surface of revolution.
  • Hole
  • Constructs a simple, counterbore, or countersunk hole in a feature-based solid.
  • Protrude
  • Used to construct a protrusion on a parametric solid using a closed profile element (shape, complex shape, circle, or ellipse) in the design, as the protrusion profile.
  • Shell
  • (3D only) Used to create a hollowed out solid having faces of a defined thickness.
  • Taper Face
  • Used to taper one or more faces on a solid.
  • Spin Face
  • Used to spin, or rotate, one or more faces of a solid about an axis.
  • Sweep Edge
  • Used to place a cut or protrusion along a path defined by edges of a parametric solid using a profile.
  • Imprint
  • Used to create edge on a solid by drawing a line, line string, block, circle, shape, imprinting a curve, or by creating an offset copy of an existing edge.
  • Unite Solid
  • (3D only) Used to unite two or more overlapping solids.
  • Subtract Solid
  • (3D only) Used to subtract the volume of one or more overlapping solids from another solid.
  • Intersect Solid
  • (3D only) Used to construct a solid that is the intersection of two or more overlapping solids.
  • Trim Multiple
  • Used to trim, extend, or trim and extend elements to their intersection with one or more cutting elements.
  • Construct Circular Fillet
  • Used to construct a circular fillet (arc) between two elements (lines, line strings, circular arcs, circles, or shapes), two segments of a line string, or two sides of a shape.
  • Construct Chamfer
  • Used to construct a chamfer between either two lines or adjacent segments of a line string or shape.
  • Smart Match
  • Used to change all active element attribute settings, including those specific to particular element types, so they match the attributes of an element in the design.


  • Match Attributes
  • Used to change the active element attribute settings so they match the attributes of an element in the design.
  • Change to Active Area
  • Used to change the area attribute of a closed element(s) (shapes, ellipses, or complex shapes, or B-spline curves) to the Active Area.
  • Change Element Fill Type
  • Used to change a closed element (shape, ellipse, or complex shape, or B-spline curve) to the Active Fill Type.
  • Delete
  • Used to delete an element(s) from the design.
 

Groups

  • Create Region
  • Used to create a complex shape which is a closed complex element that can be manipulated as if it were a single primitive element.
  • Create Complex Chain
  • Used to create a complex chain — an open complex element that is formed from a series of open elements (lines, line strings, arcs, and curves, and open B-spline curves) that can be manipulated as if it were a single primitive element.
  • Create Complex Shape
  • Used to create a complex shape (a closed complex element that can be manipulated as if it were one primitive element) from a series of open planar elements (lines, line strings, arcs, and curves, and open B-spline curves).
  • Group Hole
  • Used to select a solid element and the hole elements to be associated with the solid.
  • Group
  • Consolidates selected elements into a group (orphan cell) for manipulation as a single entity.
  • Ungroup
  • Discontinues selected groups. Each ungrouped element can be manipulated by itself.
  • Drop Element
  • Used to break up an element(s) into simpler components. Tool settings are used to specify the element types on which the tool operates.
  • Drop Complex Status
  • Used to break up a complex element (cell, complex chain, complex shape, text node, surface, or solid) into its components.
  • Drop Association
  • Used to discontinue an association point between a shared cell origin, dimension extension line vertex, or multi-line vertex and another element.


  • Drop Line Style
  • Used to convert any element with a custom line style to an identically appearing group of primitive elements with standard line styles.
  • Named Groups
  • Used to create and modify named groups and hierarchies of named groups. A named group is a group of selected elements that is given a name, and can be manipulated as a single element. A hierarchy is a selection of named groups that can be manipulated as one.
