Imprint

Used to create edge on a solid by drawing a line, line string, block, circle, shape, imprinting a curve, or by creating an offset copy of an existing edge. The solid, including the newly created edges, vertices, and faces, may be modified with the Modify Solid Entity tool.

By default, the tool recognizes the nearest faces of solids and aligns the drawing plane with the selected face.

The name of the tool settings window changes with the selection of icon in it.

Based on geometry, the AccuDraw Compass orients itself automatically when selecting edges or faces to make drawing on a solids more accurate and intuitive. This eliminates the need for preliminary AccuDraw orientations prior to activating the tool. For the Imprint Curves option, you can select a face located behind another by entering one or more Resets.

You can access this tool from the following:
  • Ribbon: Modeling > Solids > Features
  • Ribbon: Modeling > Home > Modify > Features
  • Toolbox: Solid Features

Edges created with this tool may be deleted using the Delete Solid Entity tool.

SettingDescription
Draw Shape or LineString on Solid icon

Lets you draw a single line, a line string, or a closed shape, on the face of a solid.

Where the drawn line, or line string, does not connect with an existing edge of the face, it is extended to the existing edge automatically.

Draw Circle on Solid icon

Lets you draw a circular shape on the face of a solid.
Draw Block on Solid icon

Lets you draw a rectangular shape on the face of a solid.
Imprint Element on Solid icon

Lets you imprint closed elements onto the face of a solid. Where the required face is behind another in the view, you can select the nearest face then enter Resets until the required face highlights.
Imprint Offset Solid Edges icon

Lets you draw lines offset from edges of the face of a solid. These edges can include edges previously drawn on the face of the solid.

You can locate edges inward (towards the solid) by moving the AccuDraw Compass. However, you cannot locate edges outward (away from solid or negative values for the Distance setting).

Close Element (Draw Shape or LineString on Solid only) Closes the element between the first and last points.
Edge to Edge (Draw Shape or LineString on Solid only) The first data point click determines the start point of the line. If an edge or vertex is selected, moving the AccuDraw Compass slightly selects the face to draw on (and orients AccuDraw relative to the face). If the solid is selected by clicking the data button on a face, the face is selected automatically.
Profile Sets the behavior of the profile after the feature is created.
  • Hide - The profile is associated with the feature to allow for later modification, but is not visible. To use or modify the profile again, you will need to use Show Input Element command from the reset pop-up menu or the Show Input Element tool.
  • Show - The profile is associated with the feature to allow for later modification and is visible. This allows you to quickly reuse the same profile in another 3D operation. Modifying the profile will affect both operations.
  • Copy and Hide - Similar to Hide; except that a copy of the profile is made first, leaving the original profile unassociated. This allows you to quickly reuse the same profile in another 3D operation that you do not wish to be associated with the previous feature.
Method (Imprint Offset Solid Edges only) Sets the method used to select edges to be offset.
  • Loop — Selects all edges surrounding the selection point on the face of the solid.
  • Edges — Lets you select one or more edges on a face of a solid. Use <ctrl+data points> to select additional edges.
Distance (Imprint Offset Solid Edges only) Sets the distance between selected edges and the drawn edges.
Variable Link
Let's you use an existing variable to set the input value, defined in the Variables dialog.
Note: If no variables exist, you will be alerted to create one first.
Mode (Imprint Offset Solid Edges only) Sets the type of offset for the edges:
  • Round - creates an offset with rounded corners
  • Original - creates an offset with sharp corners
