Attributes

	Element Template Association Used to lock the active element template when placing an element. When on, the icon is displayed with highlighting.
	Element Template Opens the Element Templates drop-down to set the active element template, and to manage element templates using the Element Templates dialog.
	Level Opens the Level drop-down to set the Active Level and the Active Level Filter, to manage levels and filters, to set the display of levels and apply filters, and to recall existing level filters.
	Color Opens the Active Color drop-down to set the active color, and change the colors of selected elements.
	Line Style Opens the line style drop-down to set the active line style to the line style that is chosen.
	Line Weight Opens the line weight drop-down to set the active line weight and change the line weights of selected elements.
	Transparency Opens the transparency drop-down to set the active element transparency.
	Priority Opens the priority drop-down to sets the active element priority (2D models only), which determines how an element is displayed relative to other elements.
	Element Class Opens the element class drop-down to set the active class of element on placement.

Primary

	Explorer Used to manage and control project content within MicroStation.
	References Used to attach and detach referenced models, adjust reference settings and select reference tools.
	Raster Manager Used to control the display of one or more raster images in a DGN file view.
	Point Clouds Used to manage the display of one or more point clouds in a DGN file view.
	Reality Mesh Used to attach and manipulate reality meshes.
	Models Used to create, manage, and switch between models in the open DGN file.
	Level Display Used to turn on and turn off levels in a model.
	Level Manager Used to control level display and level symbology for the open DGN/DWG file and attached references.
	Properties Used to review or modify the properties of an element(s), such as its geometry.
	Key-in Used to browse, construct, and enter key-ins.
	Toggle AccuDraw Turns on/off AccuDraw, and the display of the AccuDraw Window, which is used to facilitate data point entry.
	Auxiliary Coordinates Used to create, copy, delete, or import an Auxiliary Coordinate System (ACS) and to select ACS tools.
	Saved Views Used to create, update, apply, import, and delete saved views and edit properties of saved views. Saving a view allows you to quickly apply a view with specific attributes.
	Cells Used to attach cell libraries and activate different types of cells, if one is attached.
	Markups Used to view markups made in an overlay file in Bentley Navigator. A markup can be annotation text, freehand redlining, pen and area highlighting.
	Details Used to display information related to what is selected in any of the tabs of the Explorer dialog.
	Window List Used to display information related to what is selected in any of the tabs of the Explorer dialog.

Selection

	Element Selection Used to select and deselect elements for modification or manipulation. The set of selected elements is called the selection set.
	Select All Selects all elements in the design.
	Select None Deselects all elements in the design.
	Select By Attributes Used to select elements based on specified criteria.
	Lock Locks selected elements. The attributes and location of a locked element cannot be changed. Locking is useful for preventing accidental element manipulation. If you try to manipulate a locked element, MicroStation beeps to alert you that the element is locked.
	Unlock Unlocks selected locked elements. Each unlocked element can be manipulated.
	Bring to Front Brings the selected element to the front of the view display.
	Place Fence Used to place a fence.
	Modify Fence Used to move a fence or modify one of its vertices.
	Manipulate Fence Contents Used to move, copy, rotate, mirror, scale, or stretch fence contents, which are defined by a fence and (except for stretching) the Fence (Selection) Mode.
	Delete Fence Contents Used to delete the fence contents, which are defined by a fence and the Fence (Selection) Mode, which determines what constitutes the contents of a fence.
	Drop Fence Contents Used to break up the contents in a fence into their components.
	Save Fence to File Used to copy or move the contents of the active fence to a new DGN or DWG file.
	Named Boundaries Used to manage named boundaries and named boundary groups.
	Cut Used to cut selected elements to clipboard.
	Copy Used to copy selected elements to clipboard.
	Paste Used to paste elements from clipboard.
	Paste Special Used to select the data type and open the Paste OLE dialog where a special display format can be applied to the contents of the Clipboard.

Placement

	Place SmartLine Used to place a chain of connected line segments and arc segments as individual elements or as a single line string, shape, circle, complex chain, or complex shape element.
	Place Line Used to place or construct a line.
	Place Arc Used to place a circular arc. Arcs can be placed clockwise or counterclockwise.
	Place Half Ellipse Used to place an elliptical arc with a sweep angle of 180.
	Place Quarter Ellipse Used to place an elliptical arc with a sweep angle of 90.
	Modify Arc Radius Used to modify the radius, sweep angle, and center of a circular arc.
	Modify Arc Angle Used to extend or shorten the length (sweep angle) of an arc.
	Modify Arc Axis Used to extend or shorten the length (sweep angle) of an arc.
	Place Circle Used to place a circle.
	Place Ellipse Used to place an ellipse.
	Place Block Used to place a block (rectangular shape).
	Place Shape Used to place a polygonal shape by entering a series of data points to define the vertices.
	Place Orthogonal Shape Used to place a non-rectangular shape in which each segment is either perpendicular or parallel to all other segments.
	Place Regular Polygon Used to place a regular polygon — a shape with 3-4999 equal length sides and equal angles at each vertex.
	B-spline by Points Used to place a B-spline curve.
	B-spline by Tangents Used to create a B-spline curve that passes through a set of points while maintaining user-defined tangent directions at those points.
	Composite Curve Used to place a composite curve, which can have line strings, arcs, or Bézier curves (fourth order B-spline curves with four poles) as components.
	Interpolation by Arcs Used to place or construct a complex chain of arcs that passes through a given set of points.
	Conic Curve Used to place a conic section — a hyperbola, parabola, or partial ellipse — as a third-order uniform rational B-spline curve with three poles.
	Spiral Curve Used to place a transitional spiral as a B-spline curve.
	Helix Curve (3D only) Used to place a helix (3D B-spline curve).
	Extract Iso-Curves (3D only) Used to extract a B-spline curve(s) from a solid or a B-spline surface.
	Curve by Formula Opens the Curve by Formula dialog, which is used to place any conceivable planar curve as a B-spline curve or a line string, based on a mathematical formula, from a library of pre-defined curves or by defining a custom formula.
	Place Active Point Used to place the Active Point.
	Point(s) Between Used to construct a number of equally spaced Active Points between two data points.
	Point on Element Used to construct the Active Point on an element at the point closest to the data point.
	Point at Intersection Used to construct the Active Point at the intersection of two elements.
	Point(s) Along Element Used to construct the Active Point a specified number of times along an element between two data points.
	Point at Distance Along Used to construct the Active Point on an element at a keyed-in Distance from where the element is selected.
	Place Multi-line Used to place a planar multi-line.
	Place Stream Line String Used to place a stream line string — primarily for tracing images when Digitizing.
	Place Point or Stream Curve Used to place a point or stream curve.
	Construct Angle Bisector Used to construct a line that bisects an angle defined by three data points.
	Construct Minimum Distance Line Used to construct a line between two elements at their closest points.
	Construct Line at Active Angle Used to construct a line that intersects a line segment (line or segment of a line string or shape) at the Active Angle.
	Place Text Used to place a text element(s).
	Place Text Along Used to place text relative to line segment (line element or segment of a line string, shape, or multi-line).
	Place Note Used to place lines of text with a leader line and arrow, or a callout without a leader.
	Place Active Cell Used to place the Active Cell.
	Replace Cells Used to replace single or multiple cells in a model, or to update cells in a model, with cells of the same name from the active cell library.
	Place Active Cell Matrix Used to place a matrix of the Active Cell.
	Define Cell Origin Used to define the cell origin (the point about which the cell is placed).
	Select and Place Cell Used to select a cell in the DGN file and place an additional instance(s) of that cell.
	Identify Cell Used to select a cell in the DGN file and place an additional instance(s) of that cell.
	Place Active Line Terminator Used to place the Active Line Terminator cell on a line, line string, arc, or complex chain, primarily to place arrowheads. The line terminator maintains association with the element on which it is placed. Thus, if you move or rotate the element, the line terminator moves or rotates along with the element.
	Place Cell Index Used to create and place a cell index. A cell index contains all of the models in the active DGN file that are marked as Can be placed as cell.

Multi-lines

Note: This group is hidden by default, right-click on the groups in the ribbon and choose Multi-lines from the drop-down list to unhide it.

	Place Multi-line Used to place a planar multi-line.
	Match Multi-line Attributes Used to set the active multi-line definition (all settings that can be set in the Multi-line Styles dialog) to the definition of a multi-line element.
	Change Multi-line Used to change a multi-line's attributes to the active multi-line definition, which can be set in the Multi-line Styles dialog.
	Drop Multi-line Used to convert a multi-line element to a set of line strings, lines, and/or arcs.
	Construct Closed Cross Joint Used to construct a closed cross joint between two multi-lines.
	Construct Open Cross Joint Used to construct an open cross joint between two multi-lines.
	Construct Merged Cross Joint Used to construct a merged cross joint between two multi-lines.
	Cut Single Component Line Used to cut (break) a component line in a multi-line segment.
	Cut All Component Lines Used to cut (break) all component lines in a multi-line segment.
	Construct Closed Tee Joint Used to extend or shorten a multi-line to its intersection with another multi-line and construct a closed tee joint.
	Construct Open Tee Joint Used to extend or shorten a multi-line to its intersection with another multi-line and construct an open tee joint.
	Construct Merged Tee Joint Used to extend or shorten a multi-line to its intersection with another multi-line and construct a merged tee joint.
	Construct Corner Joint Used to extend or shorten two multi-lines to their intersection and construct a corner joint.
	Uncut Component Lines Used to remove a break in a multi-line, when the multi-line was broken with one of the cut or join tools.
	Multi-line Partial Delete Used to partially delete a multi-line without losing any previously created breaks.
	Move Multi-line Profile Used to do the following:
	Edit Multi-line Cap Used to change the end cap of a multi-line.

Manipulate

	Move Used to move an element(s).
	Copy Used to copy an element(s).
	Rotate Used to rotate an element(s).
	Scale Used to resize an element(s).
	Mirror Used to mirror an element(s).
	Move Parallel Used to move an element (line, line string, multi-line, curve, arc, ellipse, shape, complex chain, or complex shape), or copy an element, segment of an element or portion of an element, parallel to the original.
	Array Used to copy an element(s) many times to create an array.
	Stretch Used to stretch fence contents, which are defined by a fence.
	Align Elements by Edge Used to align an element(s) to an edge of another element.
	Move to Contact Used in either 2D or 3D to move one or more elements in a defined direction until they make contact with another element.
	Set Element Elevation Used to set a Z value to selected elements.
	Align 3D Used to move a selected element, solid, surface, or profile to be aligned to another solid, surface, or curve element.

Modify

	Modify Element Used to modify elements by changing their shape.
	Break Element Used to break an element.
	Trim Multiple Used to trim, extend, or trim and extend elements to their intersection with one or more cutting elements.
	Trim to Intersection Used to extend and/or shorten two elements of any element type to their intersection.
	Trim to Element Used to extend or shorten one or more lines, line strings, arcs, shapes, complex shapes, or multi-lines to their intersection with another element.
	Construct Circular Fillet Used to construct a circular fillet (arc) between two elements (lines, line strings, circular arcs, circles, or shapes), two segments of a line string, or two sides of a shape.
	Construct Parabolic Fillet Used to construct a parabolic fillet (curve element) between two lines.
	Construct Chamfer Used to construct a chamfer between either two lines or adjacent segments of a line string or shape.
	Insert Vertex Used to insert vertices in elements.
	Delete Vertex Used to do delete vertices from elements.
	Extend Line Used to extend or shorten a line or an end segment of a line string or multi-line.
	Change Element Attributes Used to change selected attributes of an element(s).
	Smart Match Used to change all active element attribute settings, including those specific to particular element types, so they match the attributes of an element in the design.
	Match Element Attributes Used to change the active element attribute settings so they match the attributes of an element in the design.
	Change to Active Area Used to change the area attribute of a closed element(s) (shapes, ellipses, or complex shapes, or B-spline curves) to the Active Area.
	Change Element Fill Type Used to change a closed element (shape, ellipse, or complex shape, or B-spline curve) to the Active Fill Type.
	Modify Line Style Attributes Used to modify the line style attributes of an element with a custom line style.
	Delete Used to delete an element(s) from the design.

Groups

	Create Region Used to create a complex shape which is a closed complex element that can be manipulated as if it were a single primitive element.
	Create Complex Chain Used to create a complex chain — an open complex element that is formed from a series of open elements (lines, line strings, arcs, and curves, and open B-spline curves) that can be manipulated as if it were a single primitive element.
	Create Complex Shape Used to create a complex shape (a closed complex element that can be manipulated as if it were one primitive element) from a series of open planar elements (lines, line strings, arcs, and curves, and open B-spline curves).
	Group Hole Used to select a solid element and the hole elements to be associated with the solid.
	Group Consolidates selected elements into a group (orphan cell) for manipulation as a single entity.
	Ungroup Discontinues selected groups. Each ungrouped element can be manipulated by itself.
	Add to Graphic Group Used to create and add to groups of elements (graphic groups).
	Drop from Graphic Group Used to remove elements from groups.
	Drop Element Used to break up an element(s) into simpler components. Tool settings are used to specify the element types on which the tool operates.
	Drop Complex Status Used to break up a complex element (cell, complex chain, complex shape, text node, surface, or solid) into its components.
	Drop Line String/Shape Status Used to convert a line string or shape to a series of individual line elements.
	Drop Association Used to discontinue an association point between a shared cell origin, dimension extension line vertex, or multi-line vertex and another element.
	Drop Line Style Used to convert any element with a custom line style to an identically appearing group of primitive elements with standard line styles.
	Named Groups Used to create and modify named groups and hierarchies of named groups. A named group is a group of selected elements that is given a name, and can be manipulated as a single element. A hierarchy is a selection of named groups that can be manipulated as one.
