To Place an HVAC Duct
Components are
typically connected to other components or placed at known distances to one
another. However, you may want to place a component "in space"; that is, at a
specific location or coordinate with no respect to other component locations.
Note: It is suggested that
the user should be proficient with the AccuDraw tool when routing components in
OpenPlant Modeler
.
Note: If placing a component W.R.T. to the active point of a bend
component, refer to the
Snap to an
Active Point of an Elbow topic for details.
- Open the Standard Preferences dialog and set the HVAC System, specification and component values.
- Select a duct option from the Duct gallery. The following options are available:
- Pick one of the following Placement Points for the duct in the Place Component dialog:

In the Hvac Port Setting tab, define the end preparation settings
for the connection ports.
It is suggested when placing duct, to use the AutoFitting method of automatically placing bend, branch, transition components where warranted.
- Click the AutoFitting tab and check the Enable option.
- Use the settings in the AutoFitting tab to define which types of components will be used where the AutoFitting method is applied.
- Click the Design Conditions to define the size parameters for the length of duct. (Width, Height, etc.)

Pick a point in the drawing, or input the (x,y,z) coordinates in
the AccuDraw window.
An outline of the component displays.
- Pick another point in the drawing or enter the (x,y,z) coordinates in the AccuDraw window to determine the length.
- Right-click to end the procedure or continue picking points in the drawing to route additional duct segments.
- Right-click to end the placement procedure.
