Working with Attribute Exchange and Title Blocks in MicroStation

The attribute exchange feature of ProjectWise lets you link tags in MicroStation documents with ProjectWise properties. When you place a linked tag inside a MicroStation document, the value of the corresponding ProjectWise property is displayed. Typically attribute exchange is used for title blocks in integrated MicroStation, but you can place linked tags anywhere in your MicroStation documents. The link works in both directions, so that you can modify the value of a property in ProjectWise and then update its linked tag in integrated MicroStation, or you can modify the value of a linked tag from integrated MicroStation and then enter a key-in from MicroStation that updates the value of the corresponding property in ProjectWise.

To set up attribute exchange for MicroStation:

  1. In ProjectWise Administrator, your administrator sets up Attribute Exchange Rules for MicroStation. This involves creating an attribute class and adding attributes to it.

  2. On your computer, you need to have ProjectWise Explorer installed with iDesktop Integration support for MicroStation.

  3. In integrated MicroStation, you need to create a tag set corresponding to the attribute class in ProjectWise Administrator which your administrator set up in step 1.

Note: When attaching the tags in your DGN, remember that the active settings for elements apply for each placed tag, and these settings will apply and be reproduced when attribute exchange takes place.

Note: More information about defining tag sets and creating tags can be found in the MicroStation help under “Composing Drawings > Tagging Elements”.
