Create Grid dialog

This dialog is used to enter the properties for planar grid systems.

Opens when the Grid tool is selected on the Model ribbon tab in the Create group.

Property Value
Name Type an name used for identifying this grid.
Coordinate System Select which coordinate system the grid will be referenced to from the drop-down list. This menu is populated with all UCS you have created. If no additional UCS have been created, the list defaults to the global WCS (world coordinate system).
Plane Select which global plane within this coordinate system the grid will occupy (XY, XZ, or YZ) from the drop-down list.
Creation method Select which method you want to use for defining the grid spacing.
  • By spacing — provide the number and length of individual spaces is to be given.
    Property Value
Number of spaces in X Type the number of equal spaces along the X direction of the selected UCS.
Grid spacing X Distance between grid lines along the X direction.
Number of spaces in Y Type the number of equal spaces along the Y direction of the selected UCS.
Grid spacing Y Distance between grid lines along the Y direction.
Number of spaces in Z Type the number of equal spaces along the Z direction of the selected UCS.
Grid spacing Z Distance between grid lines along the Z direction.
  • By Length — provide an overall length which is to be sub-divided into a set number of spaces (refer to Grid spacing X / Y / Z above)
    Property Value
Total length in X The total length of the grid along the X direction, to be divided into an equal Number of spaces in X.
Total length in Y The total length of the grid along the Y direction, to be divided into an equal Number of spaces in Y.
Total length in Z The total length of the grid along the Z direction, to be divided into an equal Number of spaces in Z.
  • Custom — uses a drop-down table format along each axis to define custom spacing.

Press <Enter> to move to the next cell in the table.

Tip: You can right-click and select Paste from the pop-up menu to paste copied cells from an external spreadsheet column.
    Property Value
Grid lines on X In each cell, type the space between each grid line along the X direction.
Grid lines on Y In each cell, type the space between each grid line along the Y direction.
Grid lines on Z In each cell, type the space between each grid line along the Z direction.
