Circular Repeat dialog

This dialog is used to generate copies of a selected portion of the model in a cylindrical array.

Opens when the Circular Repeat tool is selected on the Model ribbon tab in the Edit group.

Property Value
Axis defintion Select the method used to define the axis of rotation from the drop-down list:
  • Global - select a global axis and a pivot point.
  • Two points - specify two arbitrary points to define a rotation axis in any direction.
Axis of rotation Select a global axis used for the Global method.
Arc angle Type the arc angle from the initial copy to the final copy.
Note: Positive angles are taken using the "right-hand rule" (i.e., measured counter-clockwise when looking down the positive angle of rotation). Negative values may be used to rotate in the opposite direction.
Copies Type the number of copies to be made along the arc. These will be evenly spaced along the arc (i.e., at Arc angle / (Copies + 1) degrees along the arc).
Helical height (optional) This is the distance parallel to the axis of rotation to offset the last copy (at the end of the arc angle) from the original selection. Intermediate copies will be offset by this distance divided by the number of copies to form a helical arc rather than a planar arc.
Generation Flags Select the structural data that you want copied to the newly generated elements:
  • All — Uses all properties assigned to the selected object (e.g., loads, properties, design parameters, member releases, etc.) are copied
  • Geometry OnlyOnly geometry data is copied. That is, nodes, member and element incidences are generated but no properties, loads, etc. will be assigned to the new objects.
  • Geometry and Property Only — Only geometry data and property assignments are copied. All other assignments (e.g., loads and design parameters) are not copied.
Link copies Instructs the program to generate new members between each step in the direction of the repeat.
Open Base This option instructs the program to not generate linking members at the base of the structure (i.e., the lowest nodes in the selection).
Axis location Click Select to manually identify existing nodes or grid intersections as the axis rotation. Pick one point for the Global method or two points for the Two point method. Alternatively, you may type coordinates for any arbitrary points.

Type the global coordinates used to offset the rotation axis from the origin for the Global method.

Property Value
X X coordinate
Y Y coordinate
Z Z coordinate

Type the coordinates of the first and second points used to define an arbitrary axis.

Property Value
X1 X coordinate of the first point
Y1 Y coordinate of the first point
Z1 Z coordinate of the first point
X2 X coordinate of the second point
Y2 Y coordinate of the second point
Z2 Z coordinate of the second point
