To make copies of the model selection along an arc

To make mutliple copies of the selected portions of the model in an arc about a defined axis, use the following procedure.

This procedure is useful to make multiple copies of the selection along an arc path or a helical path. You can also create rotated copies of a selection for single copies.
  1. Select any portions of the model you want to copy.
  2. On the Model ribbon tab, select the Circular Repeat tool in the Edit group.

    The Circular Repeat dialog opens.
Tip: You can continue to manipulate the view window while this dialog is open.
  3. Specify the axis details for the method selected.
    For… Specify the axis options…
Global Select the Axis of rotation about which the arc rotates and the coordinates for the Pivot point to use.
Two points Specify the coordinates for the Rotation axis initial point and Rotation axis final point which define the axis.
For either method, you may either:

click Select to manually click nodes or grid intersections as points

    or

type coordinates of arbitrary points used to define the rotation axis

  4. Select the Axis of rotation from the drop-down list.
Note: This selection is ignored in the two points method, as that inherently defines the axis of rotation.
  5. Specify the arc and copies parameters:
    1. Type the Arc angle to use between the first and last copy.
Note: Positive angles are taken using the "right-hand rule" (i.e., measured counter-clockwise when looking down the positive angle of rotation). Negative values may be used to rotate in the opposite direction.
    2. Type the number of Copies to be created. Copies will be spaced evenly along the arc.
    3. (Optional) Type a Helical height if needed.
  6. Select the copy options:
    1. Select the option for Generation. This specifies if all objects, only geometry, or a combination of geometry and properties are copied.
    2. (Optional) Select if copies should be linked by new members along the copy direction.
    3. (Optional) If the copies are to be linked, check the Open base to prevent the base nodes from being connected.
  7. (Optional) Click Preview to display a preview of the operation using the current parameters.
  8. Click OK. The dialog closes and the copies are placed as specified.
