Assign Custom Linear Support dialog

This dialog is used to generate supported nodes at even spacing along a selected member or reference line.

Opens when either:
  • the Custom tool is selected in the Supports group on the Member ribbon tab
  • the Line Support tool is selected in the Supports group on the Reference Line ribbon tab


Each support generated along the member or reference line will have the specified restraints or springs.

SettingDescription
Support type Select the type of support at this node:
  • Restraints - fixed against translation or rotation in the selected degrees of freedom.
  • Springs - linear and rotational springs which can act in tension-only or compression-only, as well as in both reaction directions.
Segments Type the number of segments along the member where supported nodes will be created. The physical member will be divided into this number of equal lengths.

X Check to restrain translation along the global X direction.
Y Check to restrain translation along the global Y direction.
Z Check to restrain translation along the global Z direction.
Rotation

X Check to restrain rotation about the global X axis.
Y Check to restrain rotation about the global Y axis.
Z Check to restrain rotation about the global Z axis.
Axial behavior Select the
  • Complete - full axial behavior in both tension and compression
  • Compression only - support that resists compression only in the selected directions
  • Tension only - support that resists tension only in the selected directions
Note: A spring declared as tension-only or compression-only will carry axial forces only. It will not carry moments.
X axis Check to apply axial behavior selection in the X direction.
Y Check to restrain translation along the global Y direction.
Z axis Check to apply axial behavior selection in the Z direction.
