Details
Verify the bending capacity of a W18x50. The member is used as a 35 ft simple span subject to uniform loads. The member is braced at ends and at third points. The material is ASTM A992 (Fy = 50 ksi).
Validation
Nonuniform Moment Modification
From Table 3-1 of Reference 1:
- Cb = 1.01 for center segment
- Cb = 1.45 for end segments
By inspection, the center segment will govern.
