Layout - Columns - Modify Elevation

This command is used to create sloping beam framing by changing the elevation of the top of the column. When a Column is initially modeled, the top of column is assumed to be at the story level, and any beams framing into that column are assumed to frame in at that level. Therefore, this command need not be selected unless an extended or shortened column is desired, or to clear any previous assignment made. When a column elevation is modified, the elevations of the ends of the beams and braces that frame into that column are also modified accordingly.

The base of the columns at the foundation level can be lowered using the Layout - Foundations - Spread - Modify Elevation or Layout - Foundations - Continuous - Modify Elevation commands.

To modify the top of column elevation, select the option to either Extend or Shorten and enter the amount by which the top of column is to be modified, relative to the Story Height. The "Use Story Height' option is used to reset the top of column.

Once the option has been specified, click Single or Fence.

SettingDescription
Single: Click the target cursor on the column for which you wish to modify the elevation.
Fence: Fence an area in which all columns will be assigned the modified elevation.

Return to the Modify Column Elevations dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Columns menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Columns - Modify Elevation command
