RAM Structural System Help

Post-Processing menu

Menu Item Description
Printer Select this option to have the reports sent directly to the printer (without previewing).
Screen Select this option to have the reports displayed on screen.

Reports are previewed on the screen in a non-editable viewer. The viewer has toolbar buttons that allow printing, zooming in and out, navigating through the pages of the report, and closing the preview.

Text File Select this option to have the reports saved to a comma delimited text file.

Report information is sent to a file. The user can choose between a simple text file (.txt) or a comma-separated value files (.csv). This is the only option that does not use the other user selected report styles. One font is used for all sections of the report and all formatting is removed. However, commas are in place to separate table columns so that the file can be imported into a spreadsheet program.

Viewer File Select this option to have the reports saved to the report viewer file format. This provides the ability to view the report without running the any of the RAM Structural System modules.

Reports are saved to the Virtual Print Engine file format (.vpe). These files can only be opened with vpeview.exe, which is distributed with the RAM Structural System and installed in the same directory as the program. This format allows reports to be saved and later viewed on-screen outside the RAM Structural System.

Installation Report Opens the Installation Report, which includes data of the product version and key file locations.
General Criteria Opens the General Criteria report, which includes criteria specified in the criteria menu including the engineers selection of tables, member loads (live load reduction, roof loads), self weight and self mass.

Foundation Loads >

Gravity Forces from RAM Steel
Opens the Foundation Load Summary Report for steel members.

In all RAM Structural System design modules, the gravity surface loads applied in the Modeler are automatically distributed to the supporting beams and walls. All beams are assumed to be simple spans (not continuous between adjacent spans). The reactions from the beams are carried down the supporting columns (through each level) and are available at the base of the structure to load the foundations. This gravity analysis does not consider the continuity of any of the beams, gravity or lateral, steel or other material.

Gravity Forces from RAM Concrete Opens the Foundation Load Summary Report for concrete members.

In RAM Concrete, the user has the option of specifying continuity conditions for all concrete and 'other' type beams. These continuity conditions along with the assigned section properties and applied loads are used to calculate the gravity forces and reactions on all the supporting columns. The column forces are accumulated down the structure and are available at the base of the structure to load the foundation. Gravity wall axial loads also transferred down the structure to the foundation in the Concrete Analysis.
