RAM Structural System Help

To select design steel tables

To change the Deck or Steel Member table selections, use the following procedure.

Licensees of the RAM Steel Beam Design module and/or RAM Steel Column Design module must use caution when making changes to the Design Steel Tables selections. When a Design Steel Table selection is modified, the Master Steel Table selection may also need to be modified to correspond to the Design Steel Tables selected. If this is not done, error messages will be encountered when the design module attempts to optimize a member using sizes from the Design Steel Table that are not included in the Master Steel Table. No design will be created.

A Deck table from which deck assignments will be made within the RAM Modeler must be specified and Design Steel Tables from which steel member sizes will be selected in the RAM Steel Beam and RAM Steel Column Design modules must be specified.

The system administrator makes default table designations at the time of installation.

Deck tables and Steel tables can be modified or new tables can be created to meet the specific needs of the engineer. For further explanations on customizing these tables, see RAM Structural System Tables.

  1. Either:

select Criteria > Design Steel Tables

    or

select the Design Steel Tables tool

The Design Tables Selection dialog opens. Select the design tables for each tab as needed in the following steps.
  2. (Optional) Select the Deck tab and then select the deck table to use.
  3. (Optional) Select the Column tab and then select the column design table to use.
Important: The table selected must match the Master Steel Table selection. Refer to Column Design Steel Tables for the corresponding design table and master steel table.
  4. (Optional) Select the beam design tables:
    1. Select the Beam tab.
    2. Select the Default and Alternative tables to use.
Important: The table selected must match the Master Steel Table selection. Refer to Beam Design Steel Tables for the corresponding design table and master steel table.
  5. (Optional) Select the C-Beam™ design tables:
    1. Select the C-Beam tab.
    2. Select the Castellated Default and Castellated Alternative tables to use.
    3. Select the Cellular Default and Cellular Alternative tables to use.
  6. (Optional) Select the joist design tables:

    2. Select a CoreBrace® table to use.
    3. Select a Star Seismic® table to use.
  8. Click OK.

If the table selections are modified after one of the Design Modules have been run, optimized steel member designs will automatically be removed from the database. A warning message to this effect will be posted providing the option of canceling the change.

  9. Click OK.

A copy of the selected Steel Design Tables are saved with the database. If the database is moved to another directory or computer, the tables move with it. Note that if changes are made to the original Steel Table, that will not affect any databases that already use and have stored a copy of that table. The updated table can be selected for any database by repeating the procedure above.
