RAM Structural System Help

Design Tables Selection dialog

Used to select the design tables used for columns, beams, steel decks, C-Beam™, joists, and BRB members.

Opens when either:
  • Criteria > Design Steel Tables is selected
  • the Design Steel Tables tool is selected

Tables may be those supplied by Bentley Systems, Incorporated or ones created using The RAM Steel Table Editor. Tables may be in either English or SI units, and are independent of the model units.

The RAM Tables Directory is displayed for reference at the top of the dialog.

Deck tab

Used to select the deck table. The data in the deck table selected will appear in the Deck/Slab Property Information dialog in RAM Modeler.

Column tab

Used to select the steel column table.

Important: The table selected must match the Master Steel Table selection. Refer to Column Design Steel Tables for the corresponding design table and master steel table.

Beam tab

Used to select the default and alternate steel beam tables.

Important: The table selected must match the Master Steel Table selection. Refer to Beam Design Steel Tables for the corresponding design table and master steel table.
Note: The default steel beam table will be assigned to each gravity beam as it is modeled. The alternate steel table can be assigned on a member-by-member basis in the RAM Modeler. When optimizing and designing the gravity beams, the sizes will be selected from the assigned table.

C-Beam tab

There are four tables to select on this tab: one default and one alternate for both castellated and cellular beams.

C-Beam is a proprietary product of SteelFab, Inc.. It comes in two varieties: cellular (round openings) and castellated (hexagonal openings). Both are available in RAM Structural System. Castellated and cellular beams are created by cutting a standard beam section in half longitudinally in a castellated or half circle pattern, separating and offsetting the two halves, and welding them back together. This results in a deeper beam of the same weight as the original, with hexagonal or round openings along the length of the beam.

Joist tab

There are four tables to select on this tab: one default and one alternate for both standard joists and constant shear joists.

Note: The default joist table will be assigned to each joist as it is modeled. The alternate steel table can be assigned on a member-by-member basis in the RAM Modeler. When selecting joist sizes, the sizes will be selected from the assigned table.

BRB tab

Used to select the tables for both CoreBrace® and Star Seismic® buckling-restrained braces.
