Opening ProjectWise Documents from MicroStation

There are several ways you can open a ProjectWise document from integrated MicroStation:

  • Launch integrated MicroStation from the desktop, log in if prompted, and click Browse on the Work page.
  • Once you have a file open in integrated MicroStation, select File > Open > Browse.
  • Once you have a file open in integrated MicroStation, select File > Close, check in the document if prompted, then select another ProjectWise document to open from the integrated Select Document dialog that opens.

MicroStation's File > Import menu lets you convert documents of formats other than DGN or DWG, then open them in MicroStation. You can also use File > Import to import an image or some text into your open document.

Note: To import documents that exist in a location outside of ProjectWise, click Cancel in the ProjectWise dialog when it opens, or press the <Esc> key on your keyboard. This returns you to the respective MicroStation dialog.
Tip: Once you have opened a DGN document from ProjectWise, that document is added for quick access to the Recent Files list on the Work Page or File > Open page, and also to the Address bar in ProjectWise's Open dialog.
Note: When you open a document whose workspace is different than the active document, you will be prompted to restart MicroStation so that it can load the workspace of the new document. Click Yes to restart MicroStation and open the new document in its correct workspace. Click No if you simply want to open the document without restarting MicroStation. If you click No, the previous document's workspace remains loaded. This behavior is controlled by the configuration variable _MCM_RELOAD_WORKSPACE.
