Structural Members and Floors

Structural members and floors only have empty weight, empty center of gravity, and empty moments of inertia attributes. Those values are calculated as follows:

Weight
  • Steel Members
    • length of the member by the unit weight from one of the structural member tables.
  • Concrete Members
    • length of the member by 0.0861 lb/in3 or 2.403e-6 kg/mm3 (assuming normal weight of concrete).
  • Floors
    • area of the floor by the Distributed Floor Weight Project Setup variable.
  • Stairways
    • Weight = (TreadLength * WeightFactor) * Number_of_Stairs where the weight factor is a project setup variable (see Setup Variables).
  • Every member of the structure section will be included in the weight calculation, even if it overlaps with another member. It is up to you to delete redundant members.
Center of Gravity
  • computed for each cross-section and projected to the member’s midpoint.
Moments of Inertia
  • Members
    • calculated by considering the weight to be evenly distributed along the centerline.
  • Floors
    • the weight is assumed to be uniformly distributed on the floor plane.
