To apply a point load on a surface

To assign a concentrated load anywhere on a surface, use the following procedure.

Tip: It is helpful to display Node Numbering and Local Axes (on the View ribbon tab) and open the Surfaces > Connectivity spreadsheet to identify N1 of the surfaces before proceeding.
  1. Select the surfaces which will have the same point loads.
  2. On the Surface ribbon tab, select the Point tool in the Loads group.

The Add Surface Concentrated Load dialog opens.
  3. Select the Load group or case to which the load will be added from the drop-down list.
  4. Type the Magnitude of the point load. Negative values may be used to reverse the direction of the load.
  5. Specify the load location by either:

type the Distance in x and Distance in y values. These are measured along the local axes directions of the surface from N1 (node 1).

    or

click Select and then select an existing node or grid intersection point on a surface

  6. Select the Direction of the load from the drop-down list.
    • Global X / Y / Z – to apply loads parallel to the selected global axis.
    • Local x / y / z – to apply loads parallel to the local surface axis. Local x and y loads are in the plane of the surface.
  7. Click OK. The dialog closes and the concentrated load is applied to the selected surfaces.

You can edit concentrated loads on surfaces for the current load group or load case by selecting the Point Loads tool in the Surfaces group on the Spreadsheet ribbon tab.
