To add a prismatic section to the model and assign it to the current selected members, use the following steps.

1. Select the Section tool in the Assign properties group on the Member ribbon tab.
   
   The Assign section dialog opens.
2. (Optional) If the section you want to assign has already been added to the model:
   1. Select Model from the Source drop-down list.
   2. Select the Section name and then proceed to step 7.
   Tip: Open the Model catalog to see the existing sections in the model. There you can also add sections with assigning them.
3. Select Prismatic from the Type drop-down list.
4. Select the Shape to use. The parametric dimensions associated with this shape are displayed.
5. Type a unique Name to identify the section in this model.
6. Type the Dimensions specific to the selected shape.
7. Specify the cross-section Properties by either:

   manually typing the values

   or

   clicking Calculate to have the program determine the properties for some shapes.

8. Select the Material to use for the section.
9. Click OK.
