To assign a custom nodal support

To assign a custom nodal restrain or spring, use the following procedure.

A custom nodal support will be specified as FIXED BUT support in the analytical model. However, if an enforced displacement is assigned to the same support, then an ENFORCED BUT support is used in the analytical model. Any spring stiffnesses will be ignored if an enforced displacement is assigned to a custom support.

  1. Select the nodes to which you want to assign the same support type.
  2. On the Nodal ribbon tab, select the Custom tool in the Supports group.

The Assign Custom Support dialog opens.
  3. Select the Support type from the drop-down list. The dialog opens update based on the selection.
  4. For restraints, check each degree of freedom which should be fixed against translation or rotation.
  5. For springs, do the following:
    1. Select the axial behavior of the spring.
    2. Select the global axis along which the axial behavior acts (applies to tension-only and compression-only springs).
    3. Type a Translation and Rotation spring value for each direction in which the spring acts.
  6. Click OK. The custom support is assigned to the selected support.

Restraints can be reviewed and edited by selecting the Supports tool in the Nodes group on the Spreadsheet ribbon tab.
