To create an ISM repository

To create an ISM repository from the currently loaded RSS model, use the following procedure.

  1. Select File > ISM > Create ISM Repository.
Note: If model changes have not been saved, you will prompted to either Save those changes now.
The Set ISM Repository to Create dialog opens.
  2. Specify the file name and destination directory for the new ISM Repository.

ISM repositories have a .ism.dgn file extension.

If the destination directory has existing ISM models, and the Preview box is checked, selecting any existing repository will show its thumbnail view.

  3. Click Save.

If the ISM link tool cannot find an appropriate deck mapping, the Mappings dialog opens.

  4. To change any deck mapping:
    1. Select the line in the table on the Slabs/Decks tab and then click Edit. The Noncomposite Steel Deck Mapping dialog opens.
    2. Clear the No Mapping check box.
    3. Select the appropriate ISM decking which most closely matches the decking modeled in RAM Structural System.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Repeat steps 4a through 4d for any other unmapped decks as necessary.
    6. In the Mappings dialog, click OK.
If you have any unmapped items, you will be notified and asked if you want to proceed anyway.

After initialization completes, the newly create ISM repository will be loaded and shown in the Bentley Structural Synchronizer application.

Note that this can take a minute or more depending on the size of the model and capabilities of the computer. The newly created candidate repository can now be worked with to select geometry and other data to include or exclude.

Note: Please refer to the Structural Synchronizer's help for details on its use.
  5. Once you have reviewed the resulting repository, click Update in the Structural Synchronizer application. The Commit Message dialog opens.
  6. (Optional) Type a commit message and optionally check the Major Change option.
  7. Click OK. The Structural Synchronizer application closes.
