Layout - Joists - Assign Size

The Layout - Joists - Assign Size command is used to assign sizes to the steel joists in the model. It is not necessary to assign sizes to steel joists. The RAM Steel Beam Design module will optimize the size of steel joist members if no assignment is made.

When Assign Size is selected from the Layout - Joists menu, a list of steel joist sizes is listed. The list can show either Standard Joists (e.g., K - Series) or Constant Shear Joists (e.g., KCS - Series). Select the Type of joist desired by selecting Standard or Constant Shear. The list can come from either the Default table or the Alternate table. The tables associated with these are specified in Criteria - Design Steel Tables in RAM Manager and can be modified in the Criteria - Joists command in the RAM Steel Beam module. Select the Table by selecting Default or Alternate.

Select the Joist size from the list.

Click either Single or Fence.

SettingDescription
Single Click the target cursor on a beam to assign it the currently selected size. This size is applied to ALL levels of the given floor type.
Fence Fence an area in which the currently selected size will be assigned to all joists. This size is applied to ALL levels of the given floor type.

Return to the Assign Joist Size dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Joists menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Joists - Assign Size command.
