The special boundary element requirements of ACI 318-11, 21.9.6.2 are evaluated when considering the special seismic requirements in the design. The evaluation is limited to load combinations that contain an earthquake term ("Seismic" or "Dynamic" load case). The module performs a separate special boundary element check for each load combination that contains an earthquake load term. This check is performed only for horizontal Section Cuts that have been assigned as hinges. Referring to Section 3.2.6, this requires that the user accurately identify the Section Cuts in the structure that will hinge in the event the structure acts as a mechanism (see Figure below).
