Layout - Columns - Assign Rigid Links

Column rigid links connect the supported ends of columns (bottom end for standard columns and top end for hanging columns) to a support point in another location. They are intended to allow modeling where columns don't meet their support points with matching centers.

Select the column type ( Standard Column or Hanging Column).

Click Add/Change to add new rigid links or change existing ones.

  1. If Standard Column is the selected column type, the floor type immediately below the current one is automatically drawn as if it were an enabled reference layout type. If Hanging Column is the selected column type, this is done for the story above. Snap Points are activated as if that other layout type were the current layout type, and Snap Points are not activated for the current layout type, or for any reference layout types, no matter what the settings in the Reference Layout Types tab of the Set Snap Points dialog. If there is no corresponding story above/below, an error is shown.
  2. Select a column as prompted.
  3. Select the support point for the rigid link as prompted, either by clicking on a snap point, or entering appropriate values in the Keyboard Mode Coordinate Entry dialog. (Note: snap points for the automatically enabled reference layout type (from step 1) are enabled as if that one were the current layout type.)

Click Delete - Single to delete rigid links one at a time.

Click Delete - Fence to delete multiple rigid links in a fenced area.

  1. Click and drag the mouse to fence in an area.
  2. All columns inside the fence rectangle will have their rigid links delete. Note: the fence region must fence in the columns that the links are connected to, and not necessarily the rigid links themselves.
