Layout - Beams/Joists - LL Reduction

When a Beam is initially modeled, it is given the default Live Load Reduction assignment, which is to calculate and use the value allowed according to the building code selected. Therefore, this command need not be selected unless an alternate maximum Live Load Reduction factor is desired, or to clear any previous assignment made. When this command is selected there are three options:

  1. Use the Calculated Value This is the calculated allowable reduction based on the selected building code.
  2. Use Calculated Value, limited to a Maximum of: This allows a cap to be place on the amount of reduction; the Live Load Reduction factor used on a member will be the more stringent value of the maximum specified by the user and that calculated using the specified Building Code.
  3. Use: This allows the user to specify a specific % reduction to be assigned to the member. Note that the program will use that value even if the code required value is more stringent.
SettingDescription
Single: Click the target cursor on the beam for which you wish to specify the maximum Live Load Reduction factor.
Fence: Fence an area in which all beams will be assigned the specified maximum Live Load Reduction factor.

Return to the Live Load Reduction dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Beams menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Beams - Live Load Reduction command.
