Layout - Beams/Joists - Steel Table

This information pertains to both the Layout - Beams - Steel Table and the Layout - Joists - Steel Table commands.

Steel Table assignments are valid for Gravity Steel Beams and Steel Joists only, and are only used by the RAM Steel Beam Design module. When the beam optimization and design is performed, the possible sizes that can be considered and selected are determined by the members listed in the steel tables assigned to the model. Two separate tables can be selected for a model, a default table and an alternate table. This is done with the Criteria - Tables command in the Beam Design module. When a beam is initially created, it is automatically assigned the default steel table. Therefore, this command need not be selected unless an alternate steel table, such as a table of user supplied built-up sections, is desired for certain members, or to reassign the default table after the alternate table has been assigned.

To assign the default steel or joist table, select the Use Default Steel Table option button.

To assign the alternate steel table, select the Use Alternate Steel Table option button.

Once a Steel Table has been selected, click either Single or Fence.

SettingDescription
Single: Click the target cursor on the beam for which you wish to assign the specified Steel Table.
Fence: Fence an area in which all beams will be assigned the specified Steel Table.

Return to the Steel Table Selection dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Beams menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Beams - Steel Table command.
