Foundations - Continuous - Add

To add a Continuous footing:

  1. Select the layout type containing the columns or walls at the base of which the footing is to be added.
  2. Select the Layout - Foundations - Continuous - Add command.
  3. Type the Reinforcement and Footing material properties. Refer to the Foundation manual for information on how these values are used in the design of Continuous footings.
  4. Specify a value for Tolerance. This value is used to determine if a wall or column is to be included with the continuous footing. Along the length of the footing, any columns or walls that fall within this distance of the centerline of the footing will be included; it is not necessary that walls and columns align exactly. Unduly large values should be avoid, as the affects of torsion due to the offset from centerline are not included in the footing design.
  5. Select the Add button.
  6. With the "+" cursor click on a column or wall end representing the beginning point of the continuous footing and then click on a column or wall representing the end point of the continuous footing. (Note that for the actual design, the actual length of the footing will extend as necessary based on Criteria set in the RAM Foundation module.)

A footing will be drawn with an arrow. The arrow indicates the orientation of the footing.

Continuous footings are permitted to cross. In that situation each footing will be designed individually as separate footings; no interaction between footings will be assumed or considered.

Spread footings and Continuous footings cannot be assigned to the same column.

Return to the Add Continuous Footing dialog box with the Right Mouse Button or the "D" key.

Return to the Layout - Foundations menu with the "M" key.

Clicking the Cancel button or selecting any other RAM Modeler Layout command will end the Layout - Foundations - Continuous - Add command.
