Operating Systems
Unless noted, all ProjectWise servers and clients are supported on these 64-bit server operating systems:
- Windows Server 2019, Standard and Datacenter Editions
- Windows Server 2016, Standard and Datacenter Editions
- Windows Server 2012 R2, Standard and Datacenter Editions
- Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Standard and Enterprise Editions
Unless noted, all ProjectWise client applications are supported on these 64-bit client operating systems:
Virtualization Software
ProjectWise is supported for use in virtual environments, however Bentley does not certify ProjectWise on any specific virtualization software. While ProjectWise testing is regularly performed using virtualization software, the individual ProjectWise applications are tested with a focus on the operating system, not the specific virtualization software running the operating system.
ProjectWise Design Integration Server Requirements
- 2 GHz x64 processor or better, dual-core or multiple-processor architecture is strongly recommended
- 8 GB of RAM or more recommended
- 500 MB of free hard disk space for installation, plus adequate space for file storage (depending on number and size of files) if this server will host a storage area
- Windows server operating system:
- Windows networking configured for the TCP/IP protocol (IPv4 or IPv6)
- Databases for the Integration Server (latest update or service pack is assumed):
- Database drivers for the Integration Server (English versions only):
- Automated file processing
requirements:
- Windows Search - for full text indexing
- MicroStation - to extract text from DGN and DWG documents
- Adobe PDF iFilter (9.0 or 11.0, 64-bit) - to extract text from PDFs (use 9.0 on Windows Server 2008; use 11.0 on Windows Server 2012 or later)
- MSG iFilter (64-bit) - to extract text from Microsoft Outlook messages (MSG)
- ProjectWise Orchestration Framework Service (gets installed automatically)
- Up to 500 simultaneous client connections (see note below)
- Requires a license
Notes:
- In general, ProjectWise Design Integration Server can reliably handle up to 500 simultaneous client connections. This is not a hard limit, and performance may vary with this many connections, depending on the robustness of your hardware and system configuration. (In this case, a client connection is any user logged in to ProjectWise through one of the various ProjectWise client applications.)
- It is recommended that you use the specific database and driver versions listed. Incremental updates are likely to work as well, but are not recommended as they have not been tested with this release.
- Because ProjectWise Design Integration Server is a 64-bit application, you must create your ODBC datasource through the 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator ().

- 1.1 GB of free hard disk space for installation, additional space for the working directory (depending on the number and size of files) if the user's working directory will be on this computer

- There is no desktop integration for Bentley Navigator, however you can use the latest version of Bentley Navigator (desktop or mobile) to access documents in ProjectWise.
- ProjectWise delivers the same level of basic integration for AutoCAD and all supported AutoCAD-based AutoCAD vertical applications. Except for AutoCAD Civil 3D, ProjectWise does not provide integration for the additional tools and commands unique to each vertical application.
- For AutoCAD Civil 3D, ProjectWise delivers both basic AutoCAD integration and Civil 3D advanced integration.
- ProjectWise delivers both basic and advanced integration for Revit 2016 and later.
ProjectWise Caching Server Requirements
- 1 GHz x64 processor or better
- 2 GB of RAM minimum, more recommended based on the number of client connections or if the Delta File Transfer (DFT) feature will be used
- 500 MB of free hard disk space for installation, plus additional space for file storage (depending on the number and size of files)
- Windows server operating system:
- Windows networking configured for the TCP/IP protocol (IPv4 or IPv6)
- Requires a license
ProjectWise Gateway Service Requirements
- 1 GHz x64 processor or better
- 1 GB of RAM minimum, more recommended based on the number of client connections or if caching services are enabled
- 500 MB of free hard disk space for installation
- Windows server operating system:
- Windows networking configured for the TCP/IP protocol (IPv4 or IPv6)
- Requires a ProjectWise Caching Server license if this server is used to provide storage area services or caching services, otherwise no license is required
ProjectWise User Synchronization Service Requirements
- 1 GHz x64 processor or better
- 512 MB of RAM
- 75 MB of free hard disk space for installation
- Windows server operating system:
- Windows networking configured for the TCP/IP protocol (IPv4 or IPv6)
- ProjectWise Administrator - if installing the ProjectWise User Synchronization Service Administrator
- No license required
Bentley i-model Composition Server for PDF Requirements
- 2 GHz x64 processor or better, dual-core or multiple-processor architecture is strongly recommended
- 16 GB of RAM minimum recommended, plus an additional 8 GB of RAM for each additional print engine installed
- 500 MB of free hard disk space for installation, plus additional space for the working directory
- Windows server operating system:

- Internet Information Server (IIS)
- ProjectWise Orchestration Framework Service (gets installed automatically)

Bentley i-model Composition Server Administrator Requirements
Bentley i-model Composition Server Administrator is an option of both the Bentley i-model Composition Server for PDF and ProjectWise Administrator installers. These are the requirements for installing Bentley i-model Composition Server Administrator on its own computer (without Bentley i-model Composition Server for PDF).
- 1 GHz x64 processor or better
- 4 GB of RAM minimum recommended
- 75 MB of free hard disk space for installation
- Windows server or client

Which MicroStation Engine Can I Use?
Various ProjectWise features require MicroStation to be installed, so that the feature can use the underlying MicroStation engine. The following is a breakdown of those features, and which versions of MicroStation (or MicroStation-based application) can satisfy the requirement.

Internet Protocol Support (IPv4 or IPv6)
ProjectWise supports the use of either Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) or Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).
To run ProjectWise on IPv6:
- You must have a fully-configured IPv6 DNS server.
- All ProjectWise clients and servers must be part of the IPv6 network.
- All ProjectWise clients and servers must be configured to use IPv6, by enabling the new IPv6 settings on the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog.
- All ProjectWise servers must be configured to use IPv6, by enabling the IPv6 settings in the DMSKRNL.CFG file.
