ProjectWise supports MicroStation's active reference functionality for in-place editing.

When you activate a reference document from inside the master document (right-click the reference and select Activate), the reference document is checked out and made available for editing. If you want to check in that reference document, first deactivate the reference (right-click the reference and select Deactivate), then release the lock on the document (right-click the reference and select Release lock on <filename.dgn>).

When you release the lock on the document, the Check In dialog opens for you to select whether you want to Check In, Update Server Copy, or Free the selected reference document. Activating another reference will automatically deactivate the previously active reference.

When you exit MicroStation, the Check In dialog opens for you to select whether you want to Check In, Update Server Copy, or Free the master document you checked out, and also all of the reference documents you activated during that session. Note that the action you select when exiting MicroStation will apply to all the documents listed in the Check In dialog.
