ProjectWise Administrator Help

New Datasource Wizard

Used to walk you through the process of creating a datasource, or a link to a datasource on another server. This section documents all the possible pages (in order of appearance) that you may encounter in the New Datasource Wizard.

New Datasource Wizard controls, when creating a datasource

SettingDescription
Choosing datasource type page
  • A datasource that is located on <computer_name> — If on, the rest of the wizard walks you through the creation of a datasource located on the registered server under which you are running this wizard.
Naming the Datasource page
  • Datasource name — Sets the internal name of the datasource. If no Display name is set, then users will see this internal name, plus the name of the computer on which the ProjectWise server is located: <computer_name>:<datasource_name>.
  • Display Name — Sets the external display name for the datasource. If a Display name exists, users will see this name rather the internal datasource name. Use a display name if you do not want to show off the name or IP address of the computer on which your ProjectWise server is located.
Specifying ODBC connection details page From the list, select an existing ODBC connection that is already configured and connected to a database instance. This ODBC connection will connect the ProjectWise datasource to the database.
Specifying database user account for client connections page Used to identify the user name and password for an existing account in the database instance pointed to by the selected ODBC datasource.
Specifying administrator account page Used to create the initial ProjectWise administrator account (user name and password) in the ProjectWise datasource you are creating.
Finishing New Datasource Wizard page
  • Create datasource data from template — When this option is on, then after you click Finish and after the database tables are created, the Data Import Wizard opens for you to import data and attribute exchange rules exported from another datasource, or import the delivered example datasource template and attribute exchange rules files. The Data Import Wizard accepts AAM files exported from ProjectWise versions 2.x, 3.x, 8.x, and 10.x.

New Datasource Wizard controls, when creating a link to datasource

SettingDescription
Choosing datasource type page
  • A link to a datasource that is located on another server — If on, the rest of the wizard walks you through the creation of a link to an existing ProjectWise datasource located on another Integration Server computer. Typically this option is used by the Gateway Service to publish a particular datasource to its clients, but you can also perform the same operation from an Integration Server. Once the datasource link is created, the datasource displays in ProjectWise Administrator. The datasource icon has an arrow on it, signifying that the datasource is actually located on another server.
Specifying the linked server page Used to specify the computer name or IP address of the ProjectWise server that is publishing the datasource you want to link to.
Specifying the linked datasource page Used to identify which datasource on the selected ProjectWise server to link to. Entering a name in the Display name field is optional. If a Display name exists, users will see this name rather the internal datasource name selected above. Use a display name if you do not want to show off the name or IP address of the computer on which the ProjectWise server is located.
