Drill - Bolts tab

Used in conjunction with the drilling option to directly add bolted connections to the component parts. To do this, you must select at least two component parts separated by a distance smaller than the specified Gap distance.

Note: All settings with regard to drill hole field, diameter, etcetera are made on the Drill dialog Dimensions tab.
SettingDescription
Bolt Style Selects the desired bolt style.
Used to edit the selected bolt style. Opens the Bolt Styles dialog.
Gap Sets the maximum distance of one contact surface to the other. If the distance between component parts is larger, the bolted connection is not created.
Length Specifies an additional length addition for the bolts.
Use touch plane Normally, drill holes are created along the z-axis of the current UCS. However, when Use touch plane is on, ProStructures searches for contact surfaces. Usually, the surfaces where a bolted connection is to be inserted. Therefore, the UCS doesn’t have to be placed normal to these surfaces.
The plate is bolted to the shape when the UCS is not oriented normal to the drill hole direction.
Single Hole Bolt When on, allows for the insertion of bolts into a part if only one hole is specified.
Turn When on, the bolts are turned before insertion.
Update automatically When on, the connection is automatically updated if a component part has been modified. A logical link is created between the participating component parts.
Create bolting between at least 2 parts Bolts several component parts with each other. You are prompted to select the participating component parts and then to indicate the insertion point of the bolted connection (similar to a drill hole). The bolts are then automatically inserted and the necessary drill holes are created. You don’t have to specify the flanges because it is automated.
Important: The element selected first is the main element of the connection. All others are bolted elements. To modify the bolted connection, you must modify the properties of this main element. The drill hole fields of the bolted elements depend on the drill hole field of the main element. The bolted elements cannot be modified independently.
Remember: The bolts are not assigned to a group. The assignment must be made later using the Groups command.
Add parts to a bolting Adds new component parts to the bolted connection. The necessary drill holes are automatically generated.
Remove parts Removes component parts from the bolted connection. The drill holes are automatically removed as well.
