Floor Penetrations

Floor penetrations provide holes in floors to accommodate direct routing between levels of a structure.

Floor Penetration Builder

The Floor Penetration Builder has three menus:

SettingDescription
File menu
  • Save Model
  • Save Model As
  • Close the dialog
Edit menu Delete Floor Penetration
Display menu
  • Zoom To will cause CAD to prompt you to select a view. When a view is selected, the currently selected Vertical Chase will fill that view.

You can then select other views in CAD and they also will be zoomed so the chase fills the view.

Note: Some times the Zoom To will affect the clipping planes. If the component does not appear in the view, turning off the front and/or back clipping plane should make the component visible.
  • Highlight changes the drawing level of the selected pipeway to Highlight (drawn in magenta) so that it can be easily located.
  • UnHighlight returns the pipeway to its normal drawing level.
  • Display Toggles... opens the Display Toggles dialog.

Building a floor penetration

  1. Enter the penetration’s name in the Name field.
  2. Enter the structure name and section that the penetration is going to be placed in into the Structure and Section fields
  3. Enter the Floor Level for the penetration.
  4. Enter the locational data for the penetration with respect to the south-west corner of the structure section the penetration is in. This way, you need not keep track of a rotated section’s placement point:
    • X Coordinate of the origin
    • Y Coordinate of the origin
  5. Enter the physical data of the penetration in the Geometry section of the dialog.

Section View of a Floor Penetration

    1. Orientation of the penetration.
    2. Depth is the dimension of the penetration perpendicular to the axis or the orientation. Orientation of the chase.
    3. Width is the dimension of the penetration along the axis of the orientation.
Note: If you enter data that will place the penetration either outside of the structure or across a steel member, you will be prompted with an error. The penetration will place regardless, but it is your responsibly to move it into a better location.
