Project Units

These parameters tell PlantWise how to interpret linear dimensions. At the core of the program, PlantWise uses either inches or millimeters; however, you can prescribe how units are displayed, as well as what measuring system to use.

SettingDescription
Main Units Refers to the units used for linear measurement inside PlantWise. Its value is either inches or millimeters, depending on which radio button is selected.
  • Constant: *DPAR-INTERNAL-UNITS*
  • English: inches
  • Metric: millimeters
Nominal Diameter Units Refers to the units used to describe piping diameters. Separating main units from nominal diameter units allows for inch pipe sizes on a metric project site.
  • Constant: *DPAR-INPUT-DIAMETERS-UNITS*
  • English: inches
  • Metric: millimeters
Master Units Refers to what units are being used while working in a PlantWise project. The choice of Master Units depends on the Main Units of the project. You can choose to work in either feet or inches when the Main Unit type is inches. Similarly, you can work in either meters or millimeters when the Main Unit type is millimeters.
  • Constant: *DPAR-MASTER-UNITS*
  • English: feet
  • Metric: meters
Note: You can enter any measurement value with a unit (such as 12 ft.) and the program will translate that value to the Master Units of the project (such as 144 in. for a project with Master Units set to Inches and Display units set to in).
Note: Master units are the units used for the lengths and distances in the PlantWise Mass Properties dialog.
Display Units Allows you to select how Master Units are expressed in dialogs. For instance, the Master Units are set to feet and you have the option to display those values in:
  • feet and inches (5 ft. 3 in),
  • tick and double tick (5’ 3”),
  • in the master:sub-unit format used by CAD (5:3), or
  • as a real number (5.25).
  • Constant: *DPAR-DISPLAY-UNITS*
  • English: 5' 3"
  • Metric: 5.25 m
Additional master unit/display unit combinations are shown in the above figure.
