Containers and Points

The hierarchy structure is made up of Containers and Points, often referred to as Sites, Assets or Measurements. There is no limit to the number of levels within the hierarchy. There is no limit to the number of containers or points that can be added.

With the correct permissions, Containers and Points can be added, edited, deleted, renamed, moved, copied and reconfigured at any time. There is one type of container and four types of points.

A container is like a folder and can have containers and points within it. Data is not stored against a container.

A point is used to store data value measurements against them. Each data value is stored against a unique timestamp – dd/mm/yyyy mm:hh:ss, down to second level – with the exception of XY Points. A point lives within a container in the tree view.

A point can be one of four types – Process Parameter, Generic Point, XY Point and Calculation Point.

When we view the items in the tree view, each type is identifiable by an icon. In this example, we can see the top level org which is called ‘Amulet Systems’. This has a Container in it. Within the Container there is an example of each of the points. They have been named the same as their type for reference.

We also use the term ‘level’ when indicating where in the tree structure items are. The level is shown in the image below.
