OpenCities Map CONNECT Edition Help

Query Features

Once a connection has been established to a spatial database, the Connections pane in the Map Connections dialog updates to show the features available to query. Selecting the Query tool opens the Query Features dialog with all features selected. Check the box for each feature that you wish to query. Right-click the connection name to Check All, Check None, or Show Features organized by one of several options.

If a Fence is active in the current session, the Spatial Extent will be set to Fence. If there is no Fence present, the Spatial Extent will be set to View. To query all features select All.

  • Apply Where Clauses – Apply any Where Clauses defined in the Connection dialog.

The first time a query is made, a warning dialog is displayed indicating that queries are not undoable. Select "Don't show this message again" to prevent the message from being displayed for each query. The warning dialog can be suppressed by setting the following configuration variable:

Oracle: GDI_SUPPRESS_QUERY_NON_UNDOABLE_WARNING = 1

SQL Server: GDI_SUPPRESS_SQL_SERVER_QUERY_NON_UNDOABLE_WARNING = 1

Note: When querying features from a spatial database, it is not possible to select which properties to query. All properties must be queried, so they can be posted back properly. Use the Import dialog to create a read-only connection to the spatial database and optionally select with properties to import.
