Place Abutment tool

Used to place abutment templates on supportlines.

Found on the Home ribbon tab in the Substructure group.

To place the selected abutment template onto a pierline, data point on the pierline.

If the Elevation Constraints option is checked, then the Pier Elevation Constraints dialog opens. Set the constraints and click Apply when done.

Tool Settings

SettingDescription
Template Name Click […] to open the Template Selection dialog, which is used to select an abutment template from the abutment template library. Click Close to use the selected template.
Integral Set this option to have the abutment cast integral with the beams.
Horizontal Offset Type an offset length along the supportline direction.
Note: Positive is to the right when looking up station.
Longitudinal Offset

An optional adjustment offset beyond the SupportLine Alignment options, when placing abutments. Positive is ahead of SupportLine in the direction of stationing.

Apply Skew to Solids When set, the program adjusts the end faces of the abutment to follow the deck edges on skewed supports.
Conform BackWall With Deck Top When checked, the backwall follows the deck top slopes automatically.
Backwall Vertical Offset from Deck Top When Conform Backwall with Deck Top is checked, set a negative value to offset the backwall top from the deck top. Set a positive value if backwall top should be greater than the deck top (unlikely).
Elevation Constraints Set this option to open the Pier Elevation Constraints dialog when the selection set is accepted. This dialog is used to specify elevation constraints when placing pier or abutment templates on pier lines.
Orientation Select if this abutment is being placed at the Start or End of the bridge. This will orient the abutment correctly.
Cap Length Adjustment Select either:
  • None — the default cap length set in the library template is used
  • By Deck — the cap length is automatically adjusted to the deck width
  • By Skew — the cap length is automatically adjusted for the skew
  • By Deck and Aligned — the cap length is automatically adjusted to the deck width and the horizontal offset computed so as to align with deck
Material group Select the material to use for object components by selecting the associated […] button and then selecting the material from the Material Library dialog.
Build Order group Assign a build order (ordinal integer) to each object component in this group to specify construction order.
Feature group
SettingDescription
Feature Definition Select an existing feature definition from the drop-down list to use for object being placed.
