To place bearings

To place bearings along with optional bearing seats and grout pads under beams, use the following procedure.

  1. Either:

    On the Home ribbon tab, select the Place Bearing tool in the Substructure group.

    or

    key in bmgeom bearing placeunderbeams

  2. In the Place Bearing Under Beams tool settings dialog, select the Bearing Type and specify the bearing parameters, including the method of Orientation:
    Bearing Type Description
    Cube A rectangular bearing; specify length, width, and height.
    Cylinder A cylindrical bearing; specify radius and height.
    Cell Copied from a MicroStation cell library; specify the angle and scaling in three dimensions.
  3. (Optional) In the Place Bearing Under Beams tool settings dialog, set the Has Grout Pads option if they are to be included and then specify the grout pad parameters.
  4. (Optional) In the Place Bearing Under Beams tool settings dialog, set the Has Bearing Seats option if they are to be included and then specify the bearing seat parameters.
  5. In the Place Bearing Under Beams tool settings dialog, type Path offset values.
  6. In the view window, do the following:
    1. Select the existing pierlines where bearings will be placed to add them to the selection set.
      Tip: An "X" is placed over each location where a bearing set will be placed on the selected pier lines (i.e., at each beam bearing).
    2. Reset (i.e., right-click) to set the selection set.
    3. Data point again to accept the selection set.
The beam bearings with bearing seats and grout pads, if selected, are added to the model.
