To Create a Displacement Map from Existing Geometry

  1. Set up a Top view that encompasses just the required geometry.
  2. Re-size the view so that it is square.
  3. Use the Set Display Depth tool to define the near and far clipping planes as the top and bottom of the geometry respectively.
  4. Turn on Clip Back and Clip Front in the View Attributes.
  5. Open the Render Setup Manager dialog, and in Path Tracer or Ray Tracer tab expand the Output Channels option button and select Z Depth.
  6. Start the Vue rendering.
  7. When the rendering is complete, save the image to a lossless format to avoid compression noise. Look for the image which has ZDepth appended to the file name for the depth map.
