To Create a Cut in a Solid Using a Dimension-Driven Cell as Its Profile

  1. Select the Cut Features tool.

    The Cut Feature tool settings box opens.

  2. Turn on the Cell option.
  3. Do one of the following:

    If you remember the cell’s name and do not want to edit its parameters, key it into the Cell field and skip to step 9.

    or

    Click the Browse icon.

    The Select Profile dialog opens. Any cells in the active DGN file, as well as cells in the attached cell library, are listed the Cell Name list box in the dialog’s top left corner.

  4. In the Cell Name list box, select a cell.

    The cell is displayed in the window at the top right. If it is a dimension-driven cell, its parameters are displayed in the Parameter Name list box.

  5. Do one of the following:

    To use the selected cell without modifying its parameters, click OK and skip to step 9.

    or

    In the Parameter Name list box, select a parameter.

    The name of the field directly above the Cancel button changes to the selected parameter’s name, and the parameter’s value is displayed in the field. The relative part of the cell highlights.

  6. Edit the parameter’s value.
  7. (Optional) Continue to edit parameters.
  8. Click OK to confirm your changes.
  9. Select the solid.
  10. Enter a data point to position the profile cell’s origin.

    An arrow shows the directions for the cut. If Both Directions is selected, two arrows appear: a green arrow for the Through Direction, and a red arrow for the Back Through direction.

  11. Move the pointer until the arrow points in the desired direction for the cut, and enter a data point.
  12. Accept or reject the cut.
