CGM File Exchange

CGMs are used to exchange data. The CGM (computer graphics metafile) provides a file format suitable for the storage and retrieval of picture information. The file format consists of a set of elements that can be used to describe pictures in a way that is compatible between systems of different architectures and devices of differing capabilities and design. You can import as well as export CGM data into and from MicroStation.

You can import a CGM file by choosing File > Import > Exchange File Types > CGM (*.cgm) or by using the key-in MDL LOAD CGMIN. The Import CGM dialog opens. Except as noted, the controls in this dialog are analogous to those in the Open dialog.

Selecting a file to import and clicking Open opens the Import CGM File dialog, which is used to adjust the import settings for importing the CGM file selected.

You can export a CGM file by choosing File > Export > Exchange File Types > CGM (*.cgm) or by using the key-in MDL LOAD CGMOUT. The Save As CGM Drawing File dialog opens. Except as noted, the controls in this dialog are analogous to those in the Save As dialog.

Clicking OK opens the Export CGM File dialog, which is used to adjust export settings before exporting.
