Source of Settings for Saved Views and References

The settings for the saved views and references created by using the automated dynamic views workflows can come from different places, depending on how you create the saved view and place the reference. For example, in a 3D design model, when you place a section callout, what is to be displayed in the view window is inherited from the level and reference display settings; whereas how it looks or the presentation settings are inherited from the drawing seed DGNLib file. Similarly, when you place a section callout on a drawing or sheet model, what is displayed in the view window is sectioned and how it looks is determined by the drawing seed DGNLib. Alternatively, you can apply a drawing seed using the Apply Clip Volume tool. In this case what you see and how it looks, both come from the view window. Refer to the table below for the details.

Create a saved view from a new or existing callout in a 3D design model From the view window:
  • view display

  • reference display states.

From the callout:

  • camera position
  • clip volume.

From the drawing seed file’s saved view:

  • view attributes
  • display styles
  • discipline
  • purpose.
Create a saved view from a new or existing callout in a drawing or sheet model From the reference:
  • view attributes (for detail view)
  • display styles (for detail view)
  • view display
  • reference view display
  • reference display states.

From the callout:

  • camera position
  • clip volume.

From the drawing seed file’s saved view:

  • view attributes (for saved view types other than detail view)
  • display styles (for saved view types other than detail view)
  • discipline
  • purpose.
Create a saved view from a new or existing clip volume in 3D From the view window:
  • view attributes
  • display styles
  • view display
  • reference view display
  • reference display states.

From the clip volume:

  • camera position
  • clip volume.

From the drawing seed file’s saved view:

  • discipline
  • purpose.
Create a saved view using the Create Saved View tool in a 3D design model From the view window:
  • camera position
  • view attributes
  • display styles
  • clip volume
  • view display
  • reference view display
  • reference display states.

From the drawing seed file’s saved view:

  • discipline
  • purpose.
Place a new reference in a drawing model using the Create Drawing dialog

OR

Place a new reference directly in a sheet model using Create Drawing dialog (with the Create Drawing Model check box turned off)

From the new saved view:
  • camera position
  • view attributes (if the Create Drawing dialog is initiated from the clip volume or from the Create Saved View tool)
  • display styles (if the Create Drawing dialog is initiated from the clip volume or from the Create Saved View tool)
  • clip volume
  • view display
  • reference view display
  • reference display states.

From the drawing seed file’s attachment:

  • attachment settings such as snap and use active annotation scale
  • view attributes (if the Create Drawing dialog is initiated from a callout)
  • display styles (if the Create Drawing dialog is initiated from a callout)
  • use reference clipping
  • synchronize view.

The Master:Ref scale is 1:1.

Place a new reference in a sheet model using the Create Drawing dialog (with the Create Drawing Model check box also turned on) The camera position is Standard Top.

From the new drawing model:

  • clip volume
  • view display
  • reference view display
  • reference display states.

From the drawing seed file’s attachment:

  • attachment settings such as snap and use active annotation scale
  • view attributes
  • display styles
  • use reference clipping.
  • the Master:Ref scale is derived from the drawing seed file attachment’s detail scale that is set in the Create Drawing dialog.
