Thin Shell Feature

Used to remove material from an existing feature-based solid to create a hollowed out solid having faces of a defined thickness. Thicknesses of individual faces can vary from the default shell thickness. Additionally, specifying a face thickness of zero removes that face from the solid, to create an opening.

  • To delete thin shells, use the Delete Feature tool.
  • To edit thin shells, use the Modify Parametric Solid or Feature tool, or edit within the Feature Manager. Editing an existing thin shell allows you to change the parameters used to construct it initially, including shell thickness and individual face thickness.

SettingDescription
Shell Thickness Sets the default wall thickness for the solid:
  • If positive, material is added to the outside; the original solid defines the inside of the walls.
  • If negative, material is removed from the inside; the original solid defines the outside of the walls.
Face Thickness Sets the wall thickness for faces having thickness other than the default.

Where a Face Thickness of 0 (zero) is specified, the face is removed.

Add Smooth Faces If on, selects tangentially contiguous surfaces.
