To Reference a Task or Workflow in Another Task or Workflow

In order to reference a task in another task you must:
  • Create and store the task in a DGN library (a file with the extension .dgnlib).
  • Make sure that the .dgnlib file is stored with the configured DGN library files, that is, in the location specified by the MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST configuration variable.
  1. In the Customize dialog ( File > Settings > Configuration > Customize ) on the Tools tab, expand the Tasks tab.
  2. Do one of the following:

Expand the User Tasks section and expand the open DGN library.

    or

Expand the User Tasks section and expand other DGN libraries.

    or

Expand the Application Tasks section and expand the MicroStation tasks.

  3. Select the task or workflow that you want to copy.
  4. Right-click it and select Copy from the pop-up menu.
  5. Expand the User Tasks section and the open DGN file.
  6. Right-click the custom task or workflow to which you are copying it and select Paste Task Reference from the pop-up menu.

The task or workflow is referenced by the custom task or workflow icon.

You can create one instance of a task and reference it in other tasks. If you need to change the task, you change it in one location.

  • Referenced tasks are updated automatically when you change the original task.
  • When you select a referenced task, the Task Path in the Properties pane indicates the location of the original task.
  • Referenced tasks can be cut, copied, deleted, moved up or down, but they cannot be modified or renamed.
