Renaming Print Definitions and Folders

Sometimes you may want to rename a folder or the print definitions in a print set. Using Print Organizer, you can:

  • Rename a single print definition or folder.
  • Rename all of the print definitions in a single folder.
  • Rename all of the print definitions in multiple folders.
  • Rename a group of print definitions.
  • Rename all of the print definitions in a print set.

To rename a single print definition or folder name, select the print definition or folder and select Edit > Rename, or right-click the print definition or folder name and select Rename from the pop-up menu. When selected, Print Organizer’s in-place editing feature allows you to type in a new name for the folder or print definition.

To rename a group of print definitions or all of the print definitions in one or more folders, select Edit > Rename by Expression to open the Rename Print Definitions by Expression dialog. If the item that is selected is a folder, then all of the print definitions in the folder are renamed. If a group of print definitions is selected, then all of the print definitions will be renamed.

The Expression name control in the Rename Print Definitions by Expression dialog supports three types of expressions: named expressions, predefined expressions, and custom expressions. In many cases, you might start with a predefined expression and modify it to suit your needs. Once you have a working expression you are satisfied with, you can add it to a Named expression and store it in a DGN library. For more information, see Defining Print Definition and Output File Name Expressions.

The Rename Print Definitions by Expression dialog also allows you to set the default print definition name expression. For example, suppose you define a custom expression and you want that expression to be used for newly added print definitions. You can select the Set as default print definition name expression control to make your custom expression the default print definition name expression.
