Feature Engine Improved Data Persistence Model A number of significant performance improvements have been made in the core XFM feature engine including the replacement of MicroStation XML fragment elements with the newer MicroStation XAttributes technology. To improve the efficiency when creating or visualizing large complex polygons (common in many geospatial data sets) the Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) release introduces a new Type 106 polygon data type. This new polygon data type not only simplifies the manner in which disjointed polygon collections or polygons containing holes are persisted, but also removes the need to use associative regions. For non-graphic data only features, a new Type 107 data feature has been added. Note: While Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) can read XFM instance data created with all previous Bentley Map product releases, due to the XFM file format changes that data will remain read/only and unavailable for editing until converted into the new file format. Conversion of existing design files to the new XFM file format can be performed using the "File > Save As..." and "Batch Convert" commands with appropriate "XFM" settings in the "Save As V8 Options" dialog. See the "XFM Properties" section of the Bentley Map help for additional information on converting existing design file data to the new XFM file format.

Interoperability Oracle Spatial "Partial Posting" Capability When posting modified data to Oracle Spatial, Bentley Map previously took an `all or nothing´ approach. This is because modifications to one record, perhaps a valve, might be incomplete or incorrect if the details of a related feature failed to post. Continuing to post in this case might leave the database in an incorrect state. However, some customers have a requirement to post large amounts of data where a failing post might adversely affect productivity if all changes are discarded. For this reason Bentley Map now provides a "partial posting" capability. Records will continue to post up until an optional user defined error limit is reached. It is up to the user´s application to validate the database and any successfully posted records.
Interoperability Improved Oracle Spatial Performance When working with Oracle Spatial databases, performance of query and post operations has been significantly improved, especially when interacting with remote database instances.

In previous versions of the Advanced Raster Processing, only rasters attached parallel to the XY plane were editable. Most of the editing tools now have a "Work in Image Plane" toggle. Local Transform tools Crop and Resize Canvas always work in the image plane. When this option is turned on, all editing operations are performed as if the MicroStation coordinate system origin was moved to the raster's origin and the axes are rotated as the raster is oriented.
Advanced Raster Processing (A) Binary Files Enhancements Improvements for working with binary files include enhanced speed for binary images editing, and for the use of editing tools and the Undo/Redo operations. Two new tools have been added: Resize Canvas and Dynamic Raster Snap. These tools are described in detail below.
Advanced Raster Processing (A) Resize Canvas This tool allows users to change the canvas size of raster images.
Advanced Raster Processing (A) Dynamic Raster Snap When this option is ON, all mouse moves have a shadow cursor snapped to the nearest raster foreground (if close enough). If a data point is entered while the shadow cursor is visible, the data point will be set to the shadow coordinates. Therefore, it is possible to snap on raster drawings while placing MicroStation elements. This feature is only available for binary files.
Advanced Raster Processing (A) Local Transform Tools This new tool box is designed to perform local transformations inside a raster. All the data used with these tools come from and/or go to the same raster. For example, the "Local Move" tool can be used to move a chair from one corner of an office to another in a scanned drawing. Available tools are: "Local Copy", "Local Move", "Local Scale", "Local Rotate", "Local Mirror" and "Local Warp". The "Cover up Area" and "Clone Area" tools are also available in this tool box. They can be used to hide or duplicate a feature in continuous tone images. The feathering option makes the boundary of the edited area seamless. These two tools also offer the option of defining a feathering area to seamlessly copy the selected area.
Advanced Raster Processing (A) Vectorize Enhancements The following features were added to the Vectorize tools:
  1. The Node elements generated by the line following operations are now undoable.
  2. It is possible to continue ahead at intersections. A point will continue to be placed in the intersection but the convert process will not stop.
  3. The new "Convert Area" tool has been added to the Vectorize tool box. This tool will convert all rasters found in the selected area to vector lines.
Advanced Raster Processing (A) Copy/Paste are Now Integrated with the Windows Clipboard The "Copy" and "Paste" functions have been rewritten. They are faster than before and now use the Windows clipboard. This means that it is possible to copy a portion of the rasters displayed in MicroStation and paste it into a third party software as "Microsoft Word".
