File Plan Components

A file plan is the plan for how you intend to handle the documents that your organization considers as "records". The file plan usually includes the retention schedule for different types of records, indicating how long the records should be kept. The file plan may also specify who is responsible for managing the record and who is able to access the record for viewing.

File plan component classes can include user-defined attributes in the same manner as other AssetWise objects. Each class can represent a different level of file plan.

If multiple file plans are needed, the parent class can represent file plans themselves. It may be convenient to create category child classes, and sub-category grandchildren classes and you can easily control and attribute's inheritance by toggling inheritance on or off.

File plans are set up via AssetWise Director.
