Mapping of Duct Components Types

When a networked duct route system is loaded in the Duct System Sizing utility, the summary table populates duct sections and all duct elements associated in the paths. These component types are mapped internally with Mechanical discipline fittings database. As a default, the current preferred fitting types set in the AutoFitting preferences are assigned to duct elements. The Duct Elements in the summary table are those connecting fittings used to link paths. Besides standard fittings like transition, bends and takeoffs used in duct sections, the route may have inline silencers and dampers in the design. When selected from the database, these fittings are mapped for their types and assigned their equivalent ASHRAE Fitting number.

Mapped Fittings and their Types

As seen in the Fitting Loss Coefficient Summary table, the entire duct fittings in the system are checked for their characteristics in the database and assigned their types. Fitting types within a section are grouped under Fittings cell under Duct Element column in Duct Sizing Summary table, and are listed in order.
Note: Fittings common to more than one section are assigned same fitting number, (e.g. Fitting No. 3 —Takeoff-Angled is common to section 2 and 3) though they function different, attributing different parameters hence their loss coefficients.
