AECOsim Building Designer Help

Join two members

Consider a design where two collinear beams span three steel columns. The middle column is to be removed. Your goal is to join the physical and analytical beam members into one beam that spans the outer columns.

On top of the columns, there are two physical members (above left) and two analytical members (above right).

  1. Delete the middle column.
  2. Select (Join Structural Members (Beams)) from the ribbon.

There are no tool settings for the Join Members tool. You are prompted to "Select Member to Join".

  3. Enter a data point to select the first beam.

You are now prompted to "Accept Linear Member".

  4. Enter a second data point to accept the first member.

You are now prompted to "Select Next Member/Reset to Join".

  5. Enter another data point to accept the second member.

You are prompted again to "Select Next Member/Reset to Join".

  6. Reset.

The two beams are joined into one beam. Both the physical and analytical components of the beams are joined.
