Add a Line Load Assignment

Four methods are available to assign a line load to the layout.

Whole Perimeter

  1. Select the line load property to be assigned by clicking the desired property in the Line Load Property list box.
  2. To assign the Line Load around the entire perimeter of a level click on the Whole Perimeter button. As long as there are beams that are continuous around the perimeter of the level then the line load will be assigned appropriately. The line load can then be modified as described in Delete Line Load and using the technique described in the Add section below.

Add

  1. Select the line load property to be assigned by clicking the desired property in the Line Load Property list box.
  2. Click Add. The Line Load Layout Mode dialog box will disappear, and the RAM Modeler will enter the Line Load Add Layout Mode.
  3. Click on the point at which the line load assignment is to begin, move the mouse over the portion of the floor where the line load is to be added, and click again. As an alternative to clicking on the beginning and end points, coordinates can be entered directly using the Keyboard Mode Coordinate Entry command.
  4. When the line definition is complete, a new line load assignment will be made, and is denoted by a thick line.
  5. Additional line loads can be entered by repeating the above step. To change the line load property selection, click the right mouse button, select the new line load property, and repeat the above steps.

Whole Diaphragm

  1. Select the line load property to be assigned by clicking the desired property in the Line Load Property list box.
  2. To assign the Line Load around the entire perimeter of a diaphragm click on the Whole Diaphragm button. The Line Load Layout Mode dialog will disappear and the mouse target cursor will appear.
  3. Select any diaphragm to assign the line load to by clicking on a perimeter beam of the diaphragm. As long as there are beams that are continuous around the perimeter of the diaphragm, then the line load will be assigned appropriately except as described in item 4. The line load can then be modified as described in Delete Line Load and using the technique described in the Add section below.
  4. If a line load already exists on part of the beam selected, the command will be aborted.

Add On Beam

  1. Select the line load property to be assigned by clicking the desired property in the Line Load Property list box.
  2. To assign the Line Load to the total span of a beam or wall click on the Add On Beam button. The Line Load Layout Mode dialog will disappear and the mouse target cursor will appear.
  3. Click on any beam or wall to assign the line load to the total span of the beam or wall. The line load can then be modified as described in Delete Line Load and using the technique described in the Add section below.
