Add <material> Wall On-Grid Mode dialog

Used to specify the materials and parameters used for concrete or other walls for layout.

Opens when either:
  • Layout > Walls > Add On-Grid is selected
  • the On-Grid tool is selected from the Layout Wall dynamic toolbar
SettingDescription
Framing Select if the wall will resist Gravity loads only or if it will be part of the Lateral load resisting system analyzed in RAM Frame and RAM Concrete.
Type (Concrete only) Select if the wall is a Cast-in-place concrete of if it is a precast Tilt-up wall system.

For Tilt-up walls, you may select if the i-end, j-end, or both ends of the wall have a gap.

Aggregate (Concrete only) Select the weight of the concrete aggregate used for calculating reinforcing-related factors.

For light weight concrete, you must also specify the average splitting tensile strength, fct, value used.

material properties
SettingDescription
Thickness Type the design thickness value of the wall.
f'c (Concrete only) Type the concrete compressive strength.
E (Other only) Type the modulus of elasticity of the other material.
UW (Concrete only) Type the unit weight of the concrete material.
UW for Self-weight Type the unit weight of the material.
Tip: The UW for Self-weight is typically increases slightly (around 5pcf) over the concrete material alone to account for reinforcing.
Poisson's Ratio Type the Poisson's ratio of the material.
Cracked Factor (membrane) (Concrete only) In-plane behavior
Cracked Factor (bending) (Concrete only) Out-of-plane behavior
Elastic Modulus (Concrete only) Select the method how the concrete elastic modulus is specified:
  • Use Calculated Value - uses the program-calculated value based on the concrete strength
  • Use - use the user-provided value.
Reinforcement (Concrete only)
SettingDescription
fy Distributed Yield strength of mild reinforcing steel used for main wall reinforcement.
fy Boundary Yield strength of mild reinforcing steel used for boundary zone wall reinforcement.
fy Ties/Links Yield strength of mild reinforcing steel used for ties or links.
Face Exposure (Concrete only) Specify the exposure label used for the Primary and Secondary face.
Note: The Primary face is defined as the face that faces away from the wall's local positive Y axis. Use Options > Show Wall > Primary Face to display the primary face.
SettingDescription
Single: Click the plus sign cursor on a SnapTo point intersection defining one end of the wall. Move the cursor to the SnapTo point defining the second end of the wall and click the mouse button to place the wall.
Fence: Fence an area in which walls will be place between existing columns.
