To create a tapered tank model
To create a tank model including tapered walls using the parametric wizard, use the following procedure.
You must specify one or more materials before using the structure wizard in order to select materials within this interface.
This tank model includes discrete wall and slab sections for use with concrete design in the RCDC application. This model can have tapered wall thickness. The lateral load due to the sloped walls are calculated as both vertical and horizontal components.
-
On the
Model ribbon tab, select the
Structure Wizard tool in the
Create group.
The STAAD.Pro Physical Modeller Structure Wizard window opens. - In the Templates panel, select the Modular Tank Tapered RCDC options. The tank properties are displayed in the Properties panel. A dynamic, 3D view of the tank appears in the view window area.
-
Define the general geometry of the tank structure:
- Type the Number of compartments.
- Specify the overall dimensions of the tank structure typing the Total length, Total width, and Height of walls values.
- Specify the thickness of the tank elements by typing the Base thickness and Separator wall thickness values.
- Specify the Wall thickness at top and Wall thickness at bottom values for the outer tank walls.
- Type the Toe to edge of walls distance used around the outside base.
- Select the Material to use for the structure. This is typically concrete for tank structures.
- (Optional) To include a roof slab:
-
Specify the support conditions:
-
Select the Support foundation method:
Option Description Piles For a concrete slab acting as a pile cap, specify the No. of supports along length and No. of supports along width values as well. Soil For concrete slab bearing directly onto soil. - (Optional) Check the Allow tensile forces option if applicable to the soil.
- Specify the Soil Modulus value.
-
Select the Support foundation method:
-
Specify the loading conditions:
- Select the Load condition type as either Load Group or Load Case from the drop-down list.
- (Optional) Check the Include self weight option to account for the tanks self-weight.
- Type the Roof surcharge (dead load) and Roof Live load values for tanks with roof slabs as necessary.
- Specify the Soil level below top of tank walls, Dry soil unit weight, Soil internal friction angle, Dead surcharge pressure, and Live surcharge pressure as needed.
- Specify the Friction angle between soil and wall.
- (Optional) Check the option to Consider water table and then specify the Saturated soil unit weight and Water table depth below soil surface if needed.
- Type the Compartment fluid unit weight used in all tank compartments.
- Click in the Compartment fluid height field and then type the level of fluid in each compartment, measured from the base of the wall. This value is used to calculate the hydrostatic pressure on the base and walls in each compartment.
- Select the model template insertion point:
-
Select the
Transfer Template tool in the
Model group on the
Home ribbon tab.
The template model is inserted into your current physical model.
